 San Diego, California - The San Diego Padres today returned catcher Michael Barrett from a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Portland and reinstated him from the 15-day disabled list. The club also purchased the contracts of infielder Brian Myrow and outfielder Brady Clark from Portland. Executive Vice President/General Manager Kevin Towers made the announcements. |

The Arizona Cardinals Football Club today announced that the team has been awarded its waiver claim on punter Mike Barr who was released yesterday by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Punter Scott Player, of the Arizona Cardinals' in both seasons and games played, was released by the team in a collateral move. |

The San Diego State men’s soccer team starts its quest for a third consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament when it begins the season at No. 21 Creighton on Aug. 31. The Aztecs will then open their home portion of the schedule with a match against UC Riverside on Labor Day (Sept. 3) at 4 p.m.

Tempe, Arizona - Arizona State University senior running back Ryan Torain has been a candidate for the Doak Walker Award, the trophy awarded to the nation's top running back. The senior from Shawnee Mission, Kansas begins his second season in Tempe after turning in a memorable 2006. Torain rushed for 1,229 rushing yards, the most by a Sun Devil back since 1975 and became the first ASU rusher to surpass 1,000 rushing yards since 2001. He added seven touchdown runs and earned second-team All-Pacific-10 Conference accolades.
