The Arizona Western College Matadors men's soccer team (1-0) defeated Glendale Community College (0-1) by the score of 2-1 in their season opener. Abdel Becerra & Eduardo Alves scored goals for the Matadors. Alves goal came just 57 seconds into the match.
Matador Head Coach Kenny Dale stated, “We didn’t play as well as we can, but we’ll try to improve on that next week. We used a lot of different combinations today, so the game was sort of ‘experimental’ for us. We showed a lot of mental toughness to survive, because Glendale’s really a physical, ‘rah-rah’ team, and very psychologically intense. For us to survive in that setting and get a win-especially with 22 new guys on our squad-was impressive.”
AWC’s Next Game: is in Mesa, Arizona - Wednesday 7:00PM (Mesa Community College)
