Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Rod Carew announces a major milestone in his recovery from a massive heart attack last fall and implant of a mechanical heart pump at Scripps Health’s Prebys Cardiovascular Institute.

The baseball legend will update his medical journey during a press conference that also marks the one-year anniversary of the opening of the institute.

Speakers include Rod Carew, his heart failure specialist Ajay Srivastava, MD, Prebys Cardiovascular Institute Medical Director Paul Teirstein, MD., and Scripps Health president and CEO Chris Van Gorder.

Rod Carew made national headlines in November when he publicly revealed his massive heart attack, heart failure diagnosis and surgery at Prebys Cardiovascular Institute to implant a mechanical heart pump as a bridge to heart transplant. Carew will discuss a major recovery milestone, and Scripps officials will detail how the institute has affected the health and lives of thousands of patients like him.
