San Diego, California - The San Diego Padres announced today that they have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with catcher Josh Bard. Executive Vice President/General Manager Kevin Towers made the announcement.

Bard hit .285 (111-for-389) with 27 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 51 RBI and 42 runs scored in his first full season with the Padres in 2007. The 29-year-old hit .406 with runners in scoring position, making him the third San Diego batter (fifth time) to hit over .400 with RISP (also Tony Gwynn and Wally Joyner). Bard started 103 games behind the plate, with the Friars going 62-41 (.602) in his starts. He also led all Major League catchers with a 3.41 ERA.

Originally signed by the Colorado Rockies as a third-round selection in the 1999 First-Year Player Draft, Bard was acquired by the Padres from the Boston Red Sox along with Cla Meredith and cash considerations in exchange for Doug Mirabelli on May 1, 2006. Over parts of six Major League seasons with the Cleveland Indians (2002-05), Boston Red Sox (2006) and Padres (2006-07), he has hit .275 (312-for-1133) with 71 doubles, three triples, 27 home runs, 152 RBI and 117 runs scored in 374 games.
