The Chargers beat the defending NFC champion Chicago Bears 14-3 in thier season opener Sunday before a packed Qualcomm Stadium. Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson threw a 17-yard touchdown pass on an option play to tight end Antonio Gates for the Bolts' first score then later scored on a 11 yard run in the 4th quarter to seal the deal.
 
The Chargers defense led the way holding the Bears to 202 yards total offense while creating 4 Bear turnovers. The Chargers offense was lead by Quarterback Phillip Rivers 22-31 – 190 yards – no touchdowns – 1 interception and Antonio Gates 9 receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown.
