San Diego, California - The San Diego Chargers defeated the Tennessee Titans in the 1st round of the NFL - AFC playoffs 17-6 for the Charger’s first playoff win since 1995.
The Chargers offense was lead by Quarterback Phillip Rivers 19-30-292 yards and a touchdown pass; LaDainian Tomlinson had 21 carries 42 yards scoring a touchdown.
The Chargers had two players with more than 100 yards receiving today, Chris Chambers (121) and Vincent Jackson (114)…Chambers was playing in his first-career playoff game today and Jackson had his first-career playoff touchdown today…it’s the third time the Chargers had two or more players go over 100 yards receiving in a playoff game…on Jan. 2, 1982, Wes Chandler (106), Charlie Joiner (108) and Kellen Winslow (166) did it in a Divisional Playoff Game at Miami and on Jan. 9, 1983, Winslow (102) and Chandler (124) did it in a Wild Card Playoff Game against Pittsburgh.
Jackson went over the 100-yard mark on his 25-yard touchdown catch with 2:35 remaining in the third quarter to put the Bolts up 10-6…Chambers went over 100 yards on the Bolts next drive, catching a 39-yard pass on a third-and-10 play that helped set up San Diego’s final touchdown of the game.
Philip Rivers had a solid day passing today, completing 19 of 30 for 292 yards with one touchdown and one interception for a 92.6 passer rating on the day…his second-quarter interception was his first in his last 104 pass attempts…coincidentally, he hadn’t thrown a pick since Dec. 9 against the Titans at LP Field, where he was picked off twice.
This was Jackson’s first-career 100-yard game.
The Chargers won their first playoff game since the 1994 AFC Championship Game in Pittsburgh on Jan. 15, 1995.
The Bolts have now won seven games in a row, the NFL’s second-longest winning streak behind New England (16).
This was the Chargers’ sixth-straight win over Tennessee.
The Chargers still have not allowed a rushing touchdown at Qualcomm Stadium this season.
The Chargers will travel to Indianapolis next Sunday to take on the Colts in the American Football Conference semi-final. Listen to the game live on KXO Radio AM1230 the game January 13 at the RCA Dome at 10:00 a.m PST. |
