San Diego, California - Shawne Merriman led the attack for the Chargers’ defense in a 24-10 win against Kansas City. Merriman registered nine tackles, a season-best 3.0 sacks and one fumble recovery for the first-place Chargers.
Disrupting the Kansas City offense for the entire game, Merriman posted his first sack of the day in the second quarter and his final two sacks of the game came in the fourth quarter and the San Diego defense posted a season-high total of eight sacks for the game. Merriman is tied for second in the AFC with 9.5 sacks and is 0.5 sack away from becoming only the second player in franchise history with three consecutive seasons with 10.0 or more sacks (10.0 in 2005, 17.0 in 2006).
In his third season from Maryland, this is Merriman’s third career Player of the Week Award and his first since Week 16 in 2006.
