San Diego Chargers fans in the Imperial Valley were treated to a Chargers Caravan like no other. The 2007 Chargers Caravan featured defensive end Luis Castillo, a second-alternate to the 2007 Pro Bowl; guard Kris Dielman, a 2007 Pro Bowl first-alternate who just signed a new six-year contract to stay with the Chargers through the 2012 season, and wide receiver Kassim Osgood, who was voted into the 2007 Pro Bowl as the AFC’s top special teams performer. Crowds began lining up at 7:00 am for the 10:30 – 12:30 appearance by the Chargers accompanied by Chargers Cheerleaders. It was estimated by event organizers that the crowd reached 2,000 anxious fans by its peak. Carroll Buckley Vice President of KXO Radio AM1230 the Chargers broadcast affiliate for the region stated, “ This is truly San Diego Chargers country, a rather impressive turnout for a Monday morning. Today Burgers & Beer was the place to be in Imperial Valley.”
The Chargers contingent was impressed by Imperial Valley hospitality to say the least. Kris Dielman stated, “ I wish everyone on the team could experience this super-charged atmosphere.” Luis Castillo added, “ I never expected to have this big of a turnout on a Monday morning.” Chargers representative Scott Yoffe concluded, “ The entire Chargers organization is extremely impressed with the caliber of this event.”
Ken Belt of KXO Radio and Alicea Swaim of Imperial Valley Mall totally concurred when they stated, “ We are just pleased to be involved with this event. It brings out the kid in all of us.”
