Colorado Springs, Colorado - For the sixth time this season and ninth of her career, San Diego State’s Christina Ross (Santa Clarita, Calif./Univ. of Kansas) has been named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week, Commissioner Craig Thompson announced Tuesday. Ross has now won the award six of the eight possible opportunities this season (SDSU was off from March 25-April 1).

Ross’ nine selections leave her second on the school’s all-time list, two behind Celena Velasquez (2003-06). In addition, her six season picks are tied with Bre DeSanta (2002) for the most in a single campaign.

A senior, Ross went 2-0 with a 0.50 ERA as the Aztecs opened the MWC season with a pair of victories over UNLV. She pitched all 14 innings and allowed nine hits, including just two extra-base hits, and three walks. In addition, Ross fanned 12 and limited the Rebels to a .180 batting average.

On Saturday, Ross tossed a complete game shutout in SDSU’s 4-0 triumph. She struck out five and walked two, while yielding five hits.

Ross came back the next day and gave up one run on four hits and a walk over seven innings in San Diego State’s 2-1 come-from-behind victory over UNLV. She struck out seven and allowed a single-base hit, a solo homer in the fifth. It was Ross’ first run allowed in 30 innings and first earned run allowed over 35 innings.

This season, Ross leads the league in ERA (0.89), innings pitched (172.2), strikeouts (163), wins (18) and appearances (31). If the season ended today, Ross would rank among the school’s single-season leaders in win-loss percentage (3rd, .692), lowest opposing batting average (4th, .203), strikeouts (5th), wins (T-5th), total shutouts (T-5th, 9), ERA (6th) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (10th, 4.08).

In her third season at SDSU after transferring from Kansas, Ross is ranked among the school’s all-time leaders in all 16 categories, including second in wins (58) and win-loss percentage (.659), third in strikeouts (500) and shutouts (23), and fourth in opponent’s batting average (.220) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.85).

The Aztecs, who moved up one spot in each of the national polls (18th in ESPN.com/USA Softball and 21st in USA Today/NFCA), will continue its six-game homestand with a doubleheader against Utah on Thursday beginning at 5 p.m. at SDSU Softball Stadium.
