Aztec Men's Soccer Looks to Extend Winning Streak PDF Print E-mail

The San Diego State men’s soccer team looks to continue its winning ways when it travels to Las Vegas, Nev., for a pair of games at the UNLV Tournament this weekend. The Aztecs (2-2-1), who are coming off back-to-back 2-0 victories, will take on Missouri State (2-3-1) at 5 p.m. Friday before meeting Drake (4-2-0) at 5 p.m. Saturday.
 
Aztec Quick Hits
* San Diego State has posted two consecutive 2-0 shutouts after starting out the season 0-2-1. The defense has allowed just five shots, none on goal, over the two victories.
* SDSUsophomore defender Nick Cardenas was named the Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week on Monday after leading the squad to a 2-0 shutout over Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday. Cardenas, who also made Top Drawer Soccer’s National Team of the Week, helped limit the Roadrunners to just one shot which didn’t come until the 76th minute. Cardenas has eight goals in 23 career games and leads the 2007 Aztecs with two tallies.
* San Diego State will be playing its second and third Missouri Valley Conference foes this weekend when it takes on Missouri State and Drake. The Aztecs opened the season with a 2-2, double-overtime tie at No. 17 Creighton, despite playing the majority of the match with 10 players after receiving an early red card.
