Racing will commence on Friday, May 9 when SDSU races in heat four at 11:23 a.m. ET. SDSU’s heat will also feature La Salle, Fordham, Buffalo, and Georgia. Other programs competing in the Aztecs’ event include Purdue, Dayton, UC Davis, San Diego and Sacramento State. The top two from each heat will advance to the semifinal on Saturday, May 10, beginning at 10:46 a.m. ET. The third and fourth-place finishers from each heat will race again on Friday in the Repachage Heats, slated to start at 3:07 p.m. ET. This is the first appearance in the Dad Vail Regatta for the Aztecs. Last year’s winner was Purdue with a time of 6 minutes, 31.36 second, six seconds ahead of runner-up Massachusetts. The Dad Vail Regatta is the largest collegiate regatta in the United States. Over 100 colleges and universities from the U.S. and Canada are slated to appear. Thousands of student-athletes visit the city of Philadelphia during the weekend of the second Saturday of May each year for this event. The first Dad Vail Regatta, which is named after Harry Emerson “Dad” Vail, was held in 1934 with only Marietta, Rutgers, and Manhattan as the entries. Marietta took home first place. Western Ontario is the winningest crew at Dad Vail’s, tallying six wins. For more information about The Dad Vail Regatta visit www.dadvail.org. |
