San Diego, California - Senior Jessica Girdner scored the Aztecs' lone goal of the afternoon, but it wasn't enough as the San Diego State women's soccer team fell, 2-1, against Cal State Northridge in exhibition play on Friday at the SDSU Sports Deck.

The Aztecs finished with the 1-0 lead after 80 minutes, but the Matadors rallied in the extra 35-minute third period behind two goals from sophomore Adriene Dickerson.

"Overall, we played pretty good," head coach Mike Friesen said. "We wanted the ladies to go all out so we could make the proper evaluations and they did.

"The team made some great adjustments to new formations that we were making during the course of the game, with one of the new formations leading to Jessica's goal."

In the nets, SDSU used three goalkeepers starting with freshman Aubree Southwick, followed by junior Christi Yount and senior Melissa Deckers. Southwick, the Danville, Calif., native played the first 55 minutes and turned away five shots.

"I was pleased with the way all three of our goalkeepers played," Friesen said. "Aubree did a very good job of cleaning up things that could have lead into some difficult situations on the field."

The Scarlet and Black will kickoff the 2007 campaign at the SDSU Sports Deck on Fri., Aug. 31, against Toledo at 4 p.m. The Aztecs will stay on The Mesa for a game versus Florida Atlantic on Sept. 2 at 2 p.m.
