San Diego, California - First-year head coach Mike Friesen and his San Diego State women's soccer team will get a jump start on their season when they host Cal State Northridge at 4 p.m. on Friday at the SDSU Sports Deck. The scrimmage will consist of three 35-minute periods and admission to the contest is free.
The match up versus the Matadors gives the 31-member Aztec squad, which includes 13 newcomers, its first chance to scrimmage against an opponent in preparation for the regular season.
SDSU returns 18 letterwinners including seniors Jessica Girdner and Ashley Young, along with sophomore Cat Walker. All three will serve as tri-captains this year.
Last season, Cal State Northridge went 10-9 overall, with a 3-4 record in Big West Conference action. The contest against the Aztecs is the first of two scheduled preseason games for the Matadors, as they prepare for their non-conference schedule, which includes matches versus Florida State, Illinois and UCLA.
The Scarlet and Black will kickoff the 2007 campaign at the SDSU Sports Deck on Fri., Aug. 31, against Toledo at 4 p.m. The Aztecs will stay on The Mesa for a game versus Florida Atlantic on Sept. 2 at 2 p.m. |
