Palo Alto, California - The 25th ranked San Diego State men’s soccer team fell to Stanford, 3-0, Sunday afternoon in Palo Alto. The Aztecs fell to 8-6-2 overall and 4-4-0 in the Pac-10, while the Cardinal improved to 6-4-5 and 3-2-2 with their second straight victory.
With the loss, SDSU also fell out of a tie for second place in the Pac-10 and now sit alone in third with 12 points. California leads the league with 15 points (5-2-0), followed by UCLA (13 points, 4-4-1), San Diego State, Stanford (11 points), Oregon State (nine points, 3-5-0) and Washington (seven points, 2-3-1).
Junior Dennis Sanchez had two shots for the Aztecs, while sophomore Steve Beitashour and freshman Raymundo Reza chipped in with a shot attempt apiece.
Junior goalkeeper Jorge Rosales (2-4-0) played all 90 minutes in net and had a career-high six saves for SDSU.
Kyle Hency scored goals for the Cardinal in the 13th and 60th minute, while Michael Strickland added a tally in the 24th minute.
After a five-game streak away from America’s Finest City, SDSU finally returns to Montezuma Mesa for a non-conference match against Alabama A&M at 2 p.m. Sunday.
MAN OF THE MATCH: Junior transfer Jorge Rosales earned Man of the Match honors after recording a career-high six saves in the game. He made many quality stops to keep the Aztecs in the match.
