San Diego, California - The San Diego State-Brigham Young men’s basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Cox Arena is designated as Union-Tribune Youth & Family Night. The pivotal Mountain West Conference game is set for 8 p.m. PT and will be preceded by an all-student tailgate.Fans can save 55 percent on upper baseline reserve tickets, which equates to $10 per seat with a minimum purchase of four tickets.
Prior to the tilt, SDSU will play host to an all-student tailgate on the concourse of Cox Arena outside of Door 4 of the facility. Channel 933 will be on hand playing music and handing out prizes beginning at 6:30 p.m., with Chipotle and other vendors also in attendance.
Right before tip-off, San Diego State will honor former Aztec men’s basketball head coach and the late George Ziegenfuss. Athletic director Jeff Schemmel and coach Steve Fisher will present the Ziegenfuss family, which will include his wife, son and daughter-in-law, his two daughters and grandson, with a framed jersey and photos of the winningest coach in school history from his days at SDSU.
The game is an extremely important one for the Aztecs (17-9; 7-5 MWC) as they currently sit 1.5 games out of second place behind UNLV and a half-game back of New Mexico for third place in the MWC entering Wednesday’s league slate. Meanwhile, the Cougars are atop the conference at 9-1.
SDSU enters the contest having won its last time out on Tuesday night, 79-68, at Wyoming. The Aztecs had five players score in double figures and were led by freshman Billy White’s second career double-double as he posted a game-high 19 points and career-best 12 rebounds.
Brigham Young visits Cox Arena as a 20-game winner at 20-5 overall and enters its rivalry game with Utah on Wednesday night in Provo having won eight straight. The Cougars are led by a pair of juniors in Trent Plaisted and Lee Cummard, who both rank in the top three in the Mountain West in scoring and the top seven in rebounding.
Earlier this season, BYU escaped with a 59-56 win over the Aztecs at the Marriott Center. SDSU, however, defeated the Cougars the last time they played on Montezuma Mesa, 86-74, when Brigham Young was the No. 21/22 (AP/Coaches) ranked team in the nation.
