Three San Diego State University Aztec football players were named to Phil Steele’s 2007 Mid-Season All-Mountain West Conference team on Thursday. Brett Swain garnered first-team honors, while Kevin O’Connell and Darren Mougey earned second-team recognition.
Swain, a senior wide receiver, currently leads the team with 505 yards on 23 receptions and is averaging 22 yards per catch. In five games played this season, the Carlsbad, Calif., native already has two 100-yard receiving games, including a career-high 224 yards and three touchdowns on six receptions against Portland State.
Senior quarterback O’Connell, has completed 102 of his 166 (61.4 percent) pass attempts in 2007, while tossing seven touchdowns and throwing only two interceptions. The Carlsbad, Calif., native currently ranks fifth all-time at SDSU with 5,959 passing yards. O’Connell, who rushed for three touchdowns against Colorado State, is also third on the team with 89 rushing yards and leads SDSU with four rushing TDs.
Mougey, a junior wide receiver, is second on the team behind Swain in the receiving category with 282 yards on 23 receptions and two touchdowns. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native moved from quarterback to wide receiver this year and recorded his first touchdown in the season-opener against Washington State.
The trio and the rest of the Aztecs return to action Saturday, Oct. 13, when they take on Utah in Salt Lake City. Game time is set for 1 p.m. MT/noon PT and can be seen in the San Diego market on Channel 4 San Diego in high definition and nationally through CSTV.com’s per-per-view service.
