Major League Baseball expands presence in Mexico ahead of the 2016 season
Fans and partners of Major League Baseball (MLB) in Mexico will enjoy a variety of new local initiatives during the 2016 Championship Season. Major League Baseball Mexico, which will be headquartered in Mexico City, will direct league efforts to embrace local fans and partners of baseball. Rodrigo Fernández, MLB Mexico's first employee, will serve as Managing Director. Televisa and MLB have renewed their longstanding partnership and will broadcast a new national MLB Game of the Week each Saturday afternoon of the Championship Season. And the celebration of this weekend's Mexico City Series, featuring two games between the San Diego Padres and Houston Astros at Mexico City's Estadio Fray Nano, will include the MLB Festival in Zócalo Square.

Joe Garagiola (Feb. 12, 1926 - March 23, 2016) passed away Wednesday morning following an unparalleled career in baseball spanning from his playing days in the 1940s to his role as a D-backs broadcaster through 2013. The 2014 Buck O'Neil Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient and 1991 Ford C. Frick Award winner was known for his nine-year playing career followed by a Hall of Fame broadcast career, as well as the many charitable endeavors that spanned his lifetime.

Evidence Suggests Amateur Contact Sports Increase Risk of Degenerative Disorder
Scientists have recently found evidence that professional football players are susceptible to a progressive degenerative disease, chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), which is caused by repetitive brain trauma. Now, researchers on Mayo Clinic’s Florida campus have discovered a significant and surprising amount of CTE in males who had participated in amateur contact sports in their youth.
